BLOODSHED

Posted by jamvi on June 12, 2007

The level with which people in Kenya so freely and easily take each others lives is alarming.

My condolence goes to the families of those who have lost their lives in the recent wave of terror. If its not the Mungiki its the bomb blast. The source of the Mungiki mayhem though in my opinion is poor governance right from independece. The succesie governments have failed to address the issue of unequitable distribution of resources. It is hard to go to bed hungry when your next door neighbour is feeding on roast meat and driving a state of the art Merc. Talk of giving mungiki adherents a means of sustainance is both reckless and dangerous. What would happen if similar vigilante groups spring up all over the country with the hope of being treated the same in the end. It is thus imperative that policies like free education and access to basic social services be instituted. These will go a long way in mitigating the level of crime we are seeing. Its not a new phenomenon. South Africa despite its great economic position has one of the highest crime rates on the planet since most of the wealth in that country is in the hands of a few wealthy individuals. In Kenya though the turn towards crime families like the Italian and Russian Mafia or the Hong Kong Yakuza is an even more scary prospect. Its time that each person took action and cared about people around them.

I abhor violence and can never find any justification for it ever! but you are right on equitable distribution of wealth that gap is a powder keg waiting to explode.

maaan this whole Mungiki thing is just sad..i mean, one people ,same interests-to live a comfy life and be happy, same struggles but at the end of the day, they slaughter their loved ones and family for a few extra coins..its just really really sad.

I know some teachings of the Mungiki. Those people who kill others in Nairobi are not Mungiki but thugs of some vigilante group that use the dreadlocks and the the name Mungiki to their advantage.

If they truly are Mungiki, their actions are still not justified. Maybe death sentence should come back or harsher punishment for those found guilty, and maybe a more organised Police Force. All these will happen if we vote wisely this time having been cheated three twice or is it thrice?

Peace need to be brought back to our beloved country. It will save some of us money used to call every now and then to enquire as to the safety of our people back home. Do it at the polls.
